We were recently asked by the Life magazines in Kent and south east London to write about renovating all or part of a property for their Home Renovation Guide. The resulting article is below:
The need for part or all of a building to be renovated can be obvious. Outdated fittings and tired décor can cry out to be renewed and replaced to make spaces welcoming and functional again. What is often less obvious are the practicalities to be addressed to get all that done.
Tony Cheeseman, the brains behind IQ Property Services, has seen it all, from big, complex renovations to smaller projects. And he’s got some down-to-earth advice for anyone thinking about refurbishing or even building a new home: “Start with your eyes wide open. Do your homework, research thoroughly, and plan things out. Or just give me a shout, and I’ll walk you through what you need to think about.”
“My advice would depend on the size and location of the project, as well as the nature of the building. Two recent examples of our diversity are: a recent three-year renovation of a substantial Grade II* listed property. It involved not just the usual project management challenges, but also compliance with the planning laws and regulations of Historic England. Working with a Historic Planning Consultant is an added complexity to the many specialist services and trades we normally coordinate. The other involved a simple extension and repurposing of a kitchen on a tight budget, as well as re-configuring a whole downstairs. In both cases we used our project management skills of planning, coordination and team building to bring together successful partnerships to meet the client’s vision and expectations.
With over 40 years of experience IQ are highly respected in their field. Tony Cheeseman’s expertise was recognized when he was invited to contribute to a prominent report on the construction industry by the Building Services Research and Information Association, backed by the Department of Trade and Industry. The report focused on how various service providers in construction should collaborate seamlessly to deliver projects. This collaborative approach, underpinned by meticulous planning, is now IQ’s hallmark for ensuring the smooth and successful execution of client projects.
IQ Property Services can take your wishes and turn them into reality, smoothly and efficiently.
