Certain properties in the UK are ‘Listed’. As stated on a UK government website, “Listing is a celebration of special architectural and historic interest, and plays a vital part in safeguarding this legacy. It protects a diverse range of buildings and structures, from palaces to barns, tombstones to skate parks, sculpture to cinemas.”
For those people who own or who might acquire a Listed property, such properties bring some special challenges. We have encountered most of them when advising or Project Managing for owners who have Listed properties.
There are resources available which can help owners or prospective owners.
One is the ‘Listed Property Owners Club‘, including its bi-monthly magazine, ‘Listed Heritage’ and website.
The January-February 2026 edition of the magazine starts with Editorial by Editor-In-Chief Martin Anslow, then pages of news and information, from ‘Free septic tank upgrades in central Kent’, to ‘Shakespeare family home damaged by fire’, and ‘Updated thatch fire safety advice’.
As the magazine shows, the Club is active on behalf of members and Listed property owners more widely in politics, too.
There is a lot more in this weighty tome, such as book reviews, and features on many of the fields relevant to Listed properties, such as glazing, lime, the artisans that use old techniques and materials, and more. Along with listings of people you might use in the maintenance and care of a Listed property. People familiar to us as we often work with them in our role as Project Managers, drawing them together and orchestrating the delivery of works that can update or transform (within the law) a Listed property.
The membership Club has events, such as ‘The Listed Property Show’ at Olympia in London at the end of January. On the website, visitors can find (via a free email sign up):
- The Suppliers Directory – Hundreds of nationwide specialist companies which members can approach with confidence, from architects to lime plastering, and surveyors to window restorers.
- A Guide to Owning or Buying a Listed Building – A helpful booklet detailing issues owners may face and where to turn for help.
- A Guide to Insuring Your Listed Building – An essential guide with advice on how to ensure your property is correctly protected.
- Properties for Sale – Search a selection of listed properties currently for sale.
All in all, this is a helpful body of information and membership to Listed property owners. Do take a look.
We’re happy to advise you on how you can create or re-envision your ideal home (Listed or not), or add security and automation to your existing home to give you peace of mind and comfort.
