Let’s face it, most of the time this is not an experience to look forward to. And often it proves seriously annoying once you see a manufacturers idea of what is helpful for the end user (that means you).
One thing 2026 has in common with, say, 1980 is that instructions (if enclosed) often still come in multiple languages, so if you have a booklet or fold-out piece of paper you can get your hopes up as you see what must be pages of useful guidance. Then you see most of the pages are in other languages and what is left is lacking in illustrations (certainly any that make sense) or bear much of a comparison to the object of device before you. Maybe AI can help here, but we haven’t seen much evidence of that yet!
Sometimes, any instructions aren’t on paper. They’re on the device, to be viewed as you power it up (hopefully having noticed any long pre-charge period so you don’t doom the battery from the start), and again, you hope that they, too, aren’t the start of a magical mystery tour of frustration.
